Hicuity Health COVID 4th Wave Update Weekly Update for 1/17/22 COVID-19 Census: Most recent week: +13% Past 4 weeks +39% Past 8 weeks +90% Ventilated Patient Census: Most recent week: +13% Past 4 weeks +32% Past 8 weeks: +101% Pandemic Perspective: While new COVID cases in the U.S. were restated downward, last week’s count of 753,379 new cases (using the national 7-day moving average) remains the highest recorded since the start of the pandemic. This week’s new case count differs only slightly, down -2% from a week ago. Though there is some evidence that the rapid spread of the omicron variant has peaked, there is no obvious evidence yet of a decline in virus transmission and resulting new infections. Currently hospitalized COVID-19 patient census remains at an all-time high, approximately 15% ahead of the previous highs of January 2021, and has grown consistently since mid-November. Hicuity Health client COVID-19 patient volumes continued a similar steady upward climb for a ninth consecutive week, growing 13% in the week to move within 6% of our all-time COVID census. Our ventilated patient count, which indicates severely ill COVID patients, also continued to rise steadily, increasing 13% and doubling over the past eight weeks. We present this data to assist in illuminating regional and national trends via aggregating the experiences of Hicuity Health’s clients during this 4th wave of COVID-19.
