Advanced ICU Care Launches Service with Winchester Medical Center

Advanced ICU Care, the nation’s leading provider of high-acuity telehealth services, announced the launch of tele-ICU services at Winchester Medical Center (WMC) in Winchester, VA,  the 455-bed regional referral hub of Valley Health system. Advanced ICU Care will provide around-the-clock support in partnership with the hospital’s medical staff and care teams to deliver an extra layer of care in one of the most critical areas of the hospital. The tele-ICU care adds to an already-mature intensivist program in place at Winchester to deliver the gold standard of critical care on a 24 x 7 basis.

The January 19 launch of service includes 48 ICU beds and a 9-bed stepdown unit, with an additional 7 beds scheduled for expansion at a later date to bring the total partnership to 64 critical care beds. The company will support WMC patients and staff from its eight care centers, which are critical care and technology hubs staffed by board-certified intensivists and highly trained critical care nurses. Tight integration between hospital systems and tele-ICU systems, along with a continuous flow of data on each patient, allows the care center clinicians to continuously monitor the condition of critically ill patients and engage in their care. Two-way audio and video access in each patient’s room enables face-to-face consultation between the Advanced ICU Care team and the patient, the patient’s family, and the WMC team at the bedside. This constant monitoring and collaborative contact across care teams ensure that clinical expertise is always available when needed.

“This partnership enables us to provide additional support for the team of intensivists and nurses at Winchester Medical Center who care for our critically ill patients around the clock,” said T. Glen Bouder, M.D., Medical Director of Critical Care at WMC. “We’ve worked hand-in-hand with Advanced ICU Care to implement the new service and build a trusting relationship between our clinical teams to ensure superior care for our patients.”

“The WMC team has been fantastic in the collaboration necessary to launch tele-ICU services,” said Rachel Sackrowitz, M.D., National Medical Director of Advanced ICU Care. “A launch of this magnitude involves a wide range of people. They have all shown tremendous dedication to our partnership on behalf of their patients.”
