Advanced ICU Care nursing leadership was active in leading four presentations at the American Association of Critical Care Nurses’ recent National Teaching Institute (NTI) and Critical Care Exposition in Houston. NTI, the largest and most comprehensive event for high acuity and critical care nurses, features presentations by leaders in critical care on trends and challenges associated with providing care to a hospital’s sickest patients.
National Director of Nursing Marcia Murphy, MSN, RN, ANP-BC, NE, BC, CCRN, and Director of Client Accounts Michelle Immken, RN, BSN, shared insights gained from the company’s more than 10 years of experience as the leading provider of high-acuity telemedicine services. Advanced ICU Care’s unique model of situating its intensivist-led care teams across 8 care hubs and its successful implementations at 65+ partner hospitals were foundational to the subject matters on which they presented.
Murphy, drawing on her own experience as a bedside critical care registered nurse (CCRN) before her transition into telemedicine leadership, presented a session on why and how bedside CCRNs excel in a tele-ICU environment. In a second presentation, she also shared key insights on the challenge of orchestrating clinical workflows across telemedicine sites.
For the two sessions she presented, Immken expanded on her client implementation and management experience to address the issue of tele-ICU collaboration. She highlighted the need for bedside to tele-ICU collaboration and also shared insights on how to develop collaboration between telemedicine providers that are not naturally drawn together by being in the same room with the patient.
In addition to presenting in four sessions, Advanced ICU Care exhibited in the main hall of the exposition, where representatives discussed opportunities for CCRNs and Acute Care NPs to provide services at the company’s tele-care hubs.
